A clinician in a laboratoryThe procedure of embryo biopsy

The process of screening the embryo for abnormalities and disorders in order to check if it is good for transfer. It can be done using PGD, PGS or some older methods or the newest method Karyomapping. It is often used for sex selection. All those methods are mainly used to prevent giving birth to a child with genetic disorders or to choose a gender to avoid gender related diseases. However there are clinics in various countries which provide the embryo biopsy for sex selection. This is however a very controversial subject and in some countries like India or China could cause huge demographic problems in the future.
